VPS setup guide

Keep MetaTrader 5 and your EA running 24/7, even when your computer is off.

Before you start

  1. 1

    Choose a VPS provider

    ~5 min

Any Windows VPS works. Providers our customers use:

    1. ForexVPS — our top pick, built for MT5. Use code EXTRA20OFF for an extra 20% off.
    2. Contabo — from about $6/month, plenty of RAM, very reliable.
    3. Kamatera — from about $4/month, scales easily, locations worldwide.
    4. AWS free tier — free for a year, more technical.
    5. Pick Windows and a location close to your broker's server — aim for under 20 ms latency.

Common mistakeClicking “Sign out” or “Shut down” on the VPS — that closes MT5 and stops the EA.

Troubleshooting

Find what you're seeing, then follow the fix.

Remote Desktop can't connect

Why: Wrong address, or the VPS is restarting.

  1. Copy the IP from the provider email.
  2. Wait 5 minutes after a restart, then try again.
  3. Check the provider's control panel shows the VPS as running.
MT5 was closed after a VPS restart

Why: Windows updates restarted the VPS.

  1. Reconnect and open MT5 again.
  2. Pause Windows updates on the VPS, or put MT5 in the Startup folder.

Questions

Do I really need a VPS?

Your EA only runs while MT5 is open and online. A VPS does that 24/7; a home PC sleeps, updates and loses internet.

Can I run several EAs on one VPS?

Yes — one MT5 can run several charts, each with its own EA.
